Mount-Ngauruhoe_12827.jpg Gordons Pyramid ThumbnailsMount Tongariro

The young composite cone of Mount Ngauruhoe rises prominently from the southern face of Mt Tongariro. Ngauruhoe is around 2500 years old and last errupted only a few decades ago. The harsh climate and recent soils allow only scattered tussocks and a few hardy herbs to grow.
