Red Crater dyke (120/189)
A prominent feature of Red Crater, seen while walking the Tongariro Crossing, is the lava dike that has been exposed by errosion. The large cavity formed when magma at the outer part of the dike cooled, while magma at the center of the dike partially drained away.
